Dimensions of 38.5 x 11 x 13 cms.
Weight about 1.120 kg.
Materials: Wood.
Presumed age: Before 1950.
Authentic maternity, of the Agni (or Anyi) ethnic group, located in the south-west of Côte d'Ivoire.
The statue represents a woman, sitting on an Akan stool, and showing her newborn baby held in her arms.
The hairstyle, in a "ball-ball" style, and the ringed neck, are part of the aesthetic characteristics of the statuary of Agni, the ringed neck being a criterion of beauty for this ethnic group.
The piece was collected through an African art dealer based among the Agni people. It was given to him by an old woman, who had inherited it from her mother, and who adored her.
