This exciting anthology series attempts to duplicate the popular timeline concept by using primary and secondary source articles arranged in Chronological order. Readers explore a potpourri of political, social, and cultural topics from the last millennium conveniently contained in a volume dedicated to each century. Using a unique anthology approach, Readers delve into each century by reading eyewitness accounts and overviews by popular historians and scientists. The broad range of topics covered includes everything from important historical events such as the Crusades and the American Revolution to Marie Antoinette’s hairstyles and excerpts from pioneer travelogues.
CONDITION: GOOD. Lightly read but EX-LIBRARY hardcover with printed/laminated boards. Greenhaven Press (2001) 307 pages. Inside the book is almost pristine, but of course there is a library sticker and an inked stamp on the back free page (the last unprinted, blank, heavy stock page in the book, just preceding the back cover). There's also a library stamp to the bottom surface of the closed page edges (visible only when book is closed, not to individual pages, only to the mass of closed page edges, sometimes referred to as the "page block"). Except for those two "blemishes" the inside of the book is very clean . Only the first third of the book appears to have been read. There's a little crinkle at the top of page 15 and 63 where evicdently someone used a paperclip as a bookmark, so there's still the visible indentation or "mark" left by the paperclip. Except for that the pages are clean, crisp, unmarked, (otherwise) unmutilated, tightly bound, unambiguously unread. From the outside the printed/laminated front and back (hard)covers are clean and unmarked, with no library stickers or stamps, however the covers do evidence modest edge and corner shelfwear, principally in the form of rubbing/crinkling to the spine head/heel and a scrape at the top edge of the front cover near the spine head. Given that the book is an ex-library copy it might lack the "sex appeal" of a "shelf trophy". Nonetheless for those not concerned with whether the book will or will not enhance their social status or intellectual reputation, it is otherwise clean and only lightly read and attractively priced. The combination of big picture, detailed focus, and authoritative voices makes this a strong series for discussion and research in advanced history classes.

REVIEW: Describes the change in philosophy, government, and society during the "Age of Enlightenment" by exploring major events, inventions, and people of the eighteenth century. An excellent overview of the events of the eighteenth century. This is the third book I have read from this series, and they are all outstanding! And rather than a narrow focus, you explore events occurring all over the world during the stipulated time frame. Really an exceptional and fascinating study. I highly recommend it, especially to those interested in acquiring an overall comprehension of the history of the Medieval and Renaissance worlds.

Most of the items I offer come from the collection of a family friend who was active in the field of Archaeology for over forty years. However many of the items also come from purchases I make in Eastern Europe, India, and from the Levant (Eastern Mediterranean/Near East) from various institutions and dealers. Though I have always had an interest in archaeology, my own academic background was in sociology and cultural anthropology. After my retirement however, I found myself drawn to archaeology as well. Aside from my own personal collection, I have made extensive and frequent additions of my own via purchases on Ebay (of course), as well as many purchases from both dealers and institutions throughout the world – but especially in the Near East and in Eastern Europe. I spend over half of my year out of the United States, and have spent much of my life either in India or Eastern Europe. In fact much of what we generate on Yahoo, Amazon and Ebay goes to support The Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, as well as some other worthy institutions in Europe connected with Anthropology and Archaeology.
I acquire some small but interesting collections overseas from time-to-time, and have as well some duplicate items within my own collection which I occasionally decide to part with. Though I have a collection of ancient coins numbering in the tens of thousands, my primary interest is in ancient jewelry. My wife also is an active participant in the "business" of antique and ancient jewelry, and is from Russia.
